General Assembly | after basaglia, 2025 -ongoing

General Assembly | After Basaglia is a six-hour durational performance structured through the procedures of a public assembly: testimony, accusation, reenactment, deliberation, voting, recess, and return. Drawing from the general assemblies initiated by Franco Basaglia within Italian psychiatric hospitals, the performance brings a group of participants together to work through a series of conflicts using scores that move between individual testimony, collective discussion, and reenactment. Accounts are given, questioned, and reconstructed as participants shift between the positions of witness, subject, and decision-maker. Over the course of six hours, authority circulates through the group as the assembly attempts to establish what happened, how responsibility is assigned, and what forms of collective response are possible.
